Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina played out the first draw of the 2026 World Cup, finishing 1-1 in Toronto, with the hosts equalising late through substitute Larin.

Canada failed to claim a winning start as co-hosts, settling for a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Group B opener in Toronto. Both sides lined up in a 4-4-2, with the big absentees being Alfonso Davies and Edin Dzeko, both missing through injury.

Bosnia were the more dangerous side early on and took a deserved lead in the 21st minute — Sead Kolasinac flicked on a corner and Jovo Lukic headed home for his international debut goal. Canada responded with sustained pressure but struggled to break down a disciplined Bosnian defensive block, creating chances through Jonathan David and Tani Oluwaseyi without finding the net.

The equaliser finally came in the 79th minute when substitute Cyle Larin controlled a knockdown from Richie Laryea and volleyed home from the edge of the box to level things up. Bosnia's Kolasinac then limped off with an injury in the closing stages, but neither side could find a winner. The point is historic for Canada — their first ever at a World Cup, after suffering three defeats in both their previous appearances in 1986 and 2022.
